STAND-OFF OVER CARRIGART BEACH ACCESS HEATS UP

first_imgAs the row continues over a right of way and foreshore at Aghadachor near Carrigart, the residents are to form a steering committee to protect their civil rights.People protest in Carrigart over the alleged closure of their right-of-way.A public meeting has been arranged for this Saturday evening at 8pm in the Downings Bay Hotel and everyone concerned about this issue is invited to come along. The residents have firmly rejected claims that their right of way was blocked on health and safety grounds saying the developers had no rights whatever to attempt to block a public highway that has been enshrined in community ownership for more than one hundred years. The row has blown up after the owners of the beachfront complex, T&G Developments closed off access to the public.Patricia Coyle, 87, said that she was shocked to discover she was denied access to 33 acres of her farm and she’s firmly denied there were any negotiations with her family on the matter. She said this is a right of way and as such nobody has a mandate to negotiate or to make decisions that might deny access to any member of the public. This week’s meeting, apart from establishing a steering committee will have a number of items on the agenda along with the preservation of the right of way.
