The company has crafted some good-looking phones packed with impressive hardware to earn a level of trust among consumers in the country. And when it comes to launching flagship phones, the company as confidently introduced new and unique technologies to impress the masses. The Find X was an example of that last year. And this year, we have the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition is a flagship smartphone that is part of the newly-minted Reno series. The Reno series has been created as a youth-centric line to offer attractive premium phones at affordable prices. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition is a Snapdragon 855-powered phone that also touts a premium glass design, pop-up camera, notchless AMOLED display and a triple camera setup, among other things. This flagship phone has been launched in India priced starting at Rs 39,990, while the regular Snapdragon 710-powered Reno model costs Rs 32,990. I spent a brief amount of time with the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom ahead of its launch and here are my initial thoughts. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition is all kinds of premium from its design. Right out of the box, you are greeted with a large device that offers an incredibly smooth back. This is due to a combination of a curved Gorilla Glass 5 with a matt-like coating that makes it feel silky smooth to the touch. It’s quite slippery on the palm so the curved panel is welcomed for a better grip.advertisementThe matt finish on the back makes the glass resistant to smudges and fingerprints. The other reason the panel is so smooth is because the triple camera setup sits underneath the glass. There is no camera hump so phone can lie flat on the table, but this also makes the device thick at 9.3mm. The cameras, Oppo logo and “Designed by Oppo” branding are all placed neatly vertically on the strip in the center. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition and the regular Oppo Reno come in two colours – Jet Black and Ocean Green – both of which look really attractive. The flagship model does not come with a 3.5mm headphone jack. It does offer stereo speakers and a Type-C port. At 215 grams, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition feels substantially heavy to hold. On the front, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition offers an edge-to-edge display free of notches or punch-holes. You get a tall 6.6-inch AMOLED display that offers a 93.1 per cent screen-to-body ratio. The FHD+ (2340×1080) display looks bright and vivid with punchy colours and deep black. The bezels on the top and sides are negligible while the chin is fairly thin as well. Stay tuned to our in-depth review where we will test the display under different lighting conditions and for scenarios like gaming and entertainment. The AMOLED display also allows Oppo to offer an in-display fingerprint sensor with the Reno 10x Zoom Edition. Like many other phones this year, the Oppo Reno also comes with a pop-up selfie camera, but with a slightly different design. While most phones come with a 90-degree pop-out mechanism, the Reno comes with what the company calls a shark fin rising camera design. The mechanism rises from the side of the top frame in a 11-degree angle, which Oppo says is the best position for capturing selfies. The pop-up camera rises in 0.8 seconds as per Oppo. The system houses a 16-megapixel f/2.0 front-facing camera that can also be used for face unlock. The triple camera setup on the back, includes a 48-megapixel f/1.7 Sony IMX586 sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and a 16-megapixel telephoto lens. The camera system supports 10x hybrid zoom, hence the name of the flagship. The phone can digitally zoom all the way up to 60x as well. I have spent less than a day with the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition, so I won’t be able to talk about the cameras in detail. It’s worth knowing that the phone also supports Night mode, Slo-mo video, Google Lens and an Expert Mode, among other things. It also gets a Dazzle Colour feature, which is similar to Chroma Boost on some Relame devices. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition is a flagship phone since it’s powered by a 2.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 855 chipset. This is notably the second phone in India to rock the latest Qualcomm flagship processor after the OnePlus 7 Pro. As expected, the phone feels blazing fast while opening apps and browsing through the UI. We will test the performance more extensively in our full review.advertisementThe Reno phone also runs on Android Pie-based ColorOS 6. The custom Oppo software comes with an app drawer and a gradient colour theme. There are a bunch of preloaded apps as well, most of which can be uninstalled. Lastly, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom houses a 4,000mAh battery and the phone supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging over Type-C.I used the Reno 10x Zoom for less than a day, but it’s clear already that Oppo has crafted a premium device that packs a punch. This is not just a good-looking phone, but it also offers something unique with its shark fin pop-up camera. It also looks like it can stand toe-to-toe in performance when compared to the OnePlus 7 Pro. However, we can only know how good the Reno 10x Zoom really is after an in-depth review so do stay tuned for that.ALSO READ | Oppo Reno 10x Zoom, Oppo Reno launched in India: Price, specificationsGet real-time alerts and all the news on your phone with the all-new India Today app. Download from Post your comment Do You Like This Story?
