Carol Rock, (661) 257-5252 [email protected] SANTA CLARITA – The deaths of two motorcyclists in separate crashes Sunday evening on Santa Clarita Valley roads were not related to the Love Ride earlier in the day, authorities said Monday. A 51-year-old Long Beach man was riding his Yamaha motorcycle south on Bouquet Canyon Road near milepost 13.74 at 5:25 p.m. when he was hit head-on by a 1998 Ford F150 pickup truck driven by Martin Lavalle, 26, of Palmdale, said Officer Wendy Hahn of the Highway Patrol’s Newhall office. Lavalle, who was not injured, was arrested on suspicion of murder. Authorities said he had a prior drunk driving conviction and in the fatal crash is suspected of being drunk behind the steering wheel again. He was taken to the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station where he was being held on $1 million bail. At 6:40 p.m., Tujunga resident Michael Lonsdale, 46, was speeding on his 2005 Triumph motorcycle on the Sierra Highway on-ramp to the Antelope Valley Freeway when he drifted onto the dirt shoulder, hit the embankment and rolled down the hillside, according to the CHP. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
